Dr. Lavin has been selected as an American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence Bariatric Surgeon, distinguishing him amongst the most experienced bariatric surgeons with the lowest instances of complications. Additionally, Dr. Lavin is one of the first four proctors for INAMED Health, enabling him to teach and credential other surgeons for performing LAP-BAND placement. Dr. Lavin is also a proctor for laparoscopic gastric bypass procedures. Moreover, he is the founder of both the Surgical Specialists of Louisiana and Southern Bariatric Associates. Dr. Lavin received his M.D. from Medical College of Ohio before completing his surgical residency at Oschner Hospital in New Orleans. He is a member of both the American Board of Surgery and the American Medical Association as well as a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.
